Not all that long ago, another Ice Age was on its way.

The heat flux from the earth's core, through all that rock, is pretty small. You can prove this by digging a hole.
Done?
Good, what's the temperature at the bottom of the hole? Well, maybe not deep enough. The deepest mine (2.5 miles) has a rock temperature of 151F. That's pretty trifling for 2.5 miles down. Asphalt in summer sun can reach 150F. Therefore the sun wins by 2.5 miles.

I dunno. The mine I used to work in was about a thousand feet deep. It was about 70 degrees F, IIRC. I hear diamond mines in South Africa are deeper and hotter. So a gradient from absolute zero to the temperature on my deck could be considered to have the portion from absolute zero to 70 F due to the earth’s core and the last 20 to 30 F due to sunlight, the way I see it.

Of the cuff, as I recall, the sun’s surface is about the same as our core temp.

Not likely. Your 1000 feet has a gradient of about 15 degreees (55 near the top depending on latitude) and 70 at the top. That's a very low gradient for heat flux. Consider midsummer on a sunny day. The earth's surface might reach 120F but 6 feet down it is still 60F or so.
Bottom line is that the earth is a very good insulator in general.

I actually think it would be a lot of fun if one or more of these States experiencing Unusual COLD Weather would file a RICO Lawsuit against CALIFORNIA, Claiming that their AB32 Global Warming Solutions Act worked too good and they overdid it and through their DIRECT ACTION has Plunged the World in to another Ice Age.
Watch them ADMIT in OPEN COURT that their Global Warming PLAN had NOTHING TO DO WITH CLIMATE, Then JAIL ALL OF THEM FOR LIFE!

It cools down the sea’s surface. It produces strong trade winds and more rain in some parts of the world.

The sun’s rays warm Mars but it’s surface is much colder. Same with the moon.

Daytime temperature on Mars is as high as 70F and 250F in sunlight on the moon. Temperatures on venus are high without sun hitting the surface. Heat from volcanoes is 10
16 J
http://www.nature.com/news/2004/040301/full/news040301-1.html while not the same as all geothermal, the volcanoes are the hottest part of the geothermal flux. Compare that to 10
24 from the sun hitting the earth annually.

Yes, I’ll bet. South Florida doesn’t have cold fronts in June.
I remember ice and very light snow in the late 70’s, but that was in January.

Ha, ha, I feel that way now, too. We’re in Oklahoma, and it’s just as hot and miserable here. Think of me, though, next January when I’m up to my eyeballs in snow and there’s a -40 wind chill. I have already told people they may not see me outside at all from November until April.

Thanks for your knowledge. I do appreciate it. The point I was trying to make, poorly it seems, was that the Earth’s surface is heated from above and below and trying to consider just what the proportion is. Perhaps I overstated the possibility but considering the many variables I wonder if anyone knows just what the proportion is. In any case I am just about certain the Core’s contribution is not trivial.
So taken together, water vapor absorbing and reflecting 90% of IR, methane another bit, CO2 contribution to IR absorption is a small portion IF there even IS a “greenhouse effect”. 2 drops in a 50 gallon tub is mankind’s contribution to global CO2. Add in warming from the central core which is NEVER considered and IMHO should be, and the “anthropogenic” part becomes infinitesimal.
