The ice age is coming, the sun is zooming in
Meltdown expected, the wheat is growin’ thin
Engines stop running, but I have no fear
‘Cause London is drowning, and I, I live by the river

I’m in SW Oregon and spring was warmer than usual plus dry. Got hot in the 90s in end of April (IIRC...) and first half of May. Then it got cold and we had the woodstove on all day for days, didn’t get out of the 50s and into the mid 30s at night. I am at 1500 ft but still very unususally cold. Even until the last couple of days, started the woodstove in the morning, night lows around 40.

Today is the first day of summer. I am sitting in my office here outside Seattle with a fleece sweater on and my hands are still freezing. Who do I sue about this global warming b.s.

Here in Arizona it's a mild 113 degrees. But the humidity is quite low. LOL!!

Me too. Nice to have a kindred soul regarding weather.

My family thinks that I am nuts!:-)

Close, but not entirely accurate. During an El Nino, the Pacific currents weaken because equatorial trade winds in the area weaken. This is caused by air pressure differentials or lack there of. Basically less wind because less pressure differences between east and west Pacific. So you basically have an enormous dead pool of water receiving solar radiation everyday. Surface warms. That heat is transferred into the atmosphere mainly via evaporation. Water vapor from evaporation is the primary green house gas component. So we get a short term atmospheric warming. The El Nino eventually ends when trade winds start blowing again. This occurs when the pressure differential between east and west Pacific increases again. The El Nino heat that gets transferred into the atmosphere is actually being transferred into space. After of coursing warming the atmosphere in the short term. During La Nina the trade winds are so strong that Pacific currents cause deep cold water to upwell in the Eastern Pacific. Basically us apes to date have been clueless about the physical processes involved. You will realize this in about 6 months.

Well, I wrote that “off the cuff” without referring to the Chemical Rubber Handbook because even the “rough numbers” demonstrate the point in this thought experiment. Having done a little googling it appears the question of fusion ain’t exactly settled. One even hypothesized plumes of hydrides from fusion of metal hydrides produces the magnetic field.

In any case, I think I made the point. Mars is proof, IMHO. It had a magnetic field and warmer temps when it had a molten core. Once that ended so did the field, the atmosphere, and temperatures dropped.

Colonizing another planet probably ain’t possible but I wonder if Saturn or Jupiter doesn’t have a moon that is promising.

Wish they all would make up their minds ..... Since we are all going to suffer death by climate we need to know whether to stock up on Parkas or Beach gear in order to survive.

Actually my very favorite weather is intense thunderstorms with lots of thunder, lightning, wind and heavy rain. Not partial to baseball sized hail, though; I have my limits.
