The Supreme Court ruled Monday that the European Union cant pursue a lawsuit accusing tobacco giant R.J Reynolds of taking part in a global money-laundering scheme that sponsored cigarette-smuggling in Europe.
In a 4-3 ruling, the justices said the EU has no right to sue in U.S. courts because federal racketeering laws dont allow recovery for injuries occurring outside the United States.
The EU and 26 of its member states allege RJR coordinated the scheme with the help of Colombian and Russian criminal groups and laundered money through New York-based financial institutions.
The EU claims the companys actions hurt the economies of EU member nations by depriving governments of tax revenues.

Should have been 9-0, but I’ll take what I can get. Bloody shame that they had to resort to dealing with criminal nations and ‘laundering’ money just to not be bled dry by Euroweenie taxation rates.
The EU is a global parasite looking for free cash. SCOTUS got this one correct, although I need to look at who dissented. Gee, I wonder who...
Here it is:
ALITO, J., delivered the opinion of the Court, in which ROBERTS, C. J., and KENNEDY and THOMAS, JJ., joined, and in which GINSBURG, BREYER, and KAGAN, JJ., joined as to Parts I, II, and III. GINSBURG, J., filed an opinion concurring in part, dissenting in part, and dissenting from the judgment, in which BREYER and KAGAN, JJ., joined. BREYER, J., filed an opinion concurring in part, dissenting in part, and dissenting from the judgment. SOTOMAYOR, J., took no part in the consideration or decision of the case.
Nyuk nyuk... up 1.73 percent right now.
I have half a mind to send them an email congratulating them on the win.
Annnd I actually just DID. Because why the hell not? :)

I might just send them a letter too, that’s a hilarious idea from the guy upthread.
I forgot about the Russia connection here. Whenever something goes wrong in the EU, it’s either the USA or Russia. The Dems don’t talk like Americans; they talk like Europeans.
