Trump affirms backing gun ban for those on terror watch list

Donald Trump reaffirmed his stance on restricting individuals on the terror watch list from being able to purchase firearms, despite Republican objections.

"We have to make sure that people that are terrorists or have even an inclination toward terrorism cannot buy weapons, guns," Trump told ABC's White House Correspondent Jonathan Karl in an interview that will air Sunday on "This Week."

"Karl asked Trump if his position is that no individual on the terror watch list is to be able to purchase a gun. The GOP's presumptive presidential nominee responded, "I'd like to see that, and I'd like to say it. And it's simpler. It's just simpler."

Trump needs to read our Bill of Rights. Restricting purchases based on some watch list runs afoul of due process and of the right to keep and bear arms.

Who gets to define what a terrorist is? The liberals would say any NRA member. Donald I know it sounds good on the surface but from a practical standpoint it will not work and the liberals would take full advantage of it.

He said he wants to stop people on the list from purchasing a gun. That is unconstitutional, and I would hope conservatives will be vocal in their opposition to such a position.

There is no due process with the “terror” watch list, when they put aliases of terrorists and every permutation of a suspected terrorist on the list, and the innocent people with those names can’t figure out how to get off.
And there are public officials like Air Marshalls and a congressman who got off only to be put back on by some other process.

One worries that they just might be inclined to label a political opponent a "terrorist", just to get him or her on the list.

This isn’t about Trump, it’s about the second amendment. If the watch list was made up of credible terror threats, it might make sense. But the FBI considers people that even talk about the constitution possible terrorists.
