Russian warplanes bombed an elite force of US-trained Syrian rebels on Thursday in an attack apparently aimed at weakening the groups ability to fight Isil.
The New Syrian Army (NSA), which receives training and direction from British, American and Jordanian special forces, said their base had been struck with cluster bombs.
The strike left two people dead and another 18 injured, appearing to incapacitate at least half of the force and drawing a furious reaction from Washington.
"Russia's latest actions raise serious concern about Russian intentions," a US official told Reuters, speaking on condition of anonymity. "We will seek an explanation from Russia on why it took this action and assurances this will not happen again. "
The attack took place in al-Tanf, a southeastern village near the Jordanian and Iraqi border that the NSA recaptured from Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil) in May last year.

Hadji don't surf!
Go Russia!
Remind me which rebels are these? Al Qaeda? ISIS? Al Nusrah?
I can’t keep our friends straight
Yep. The MSN propaganda machine not working here.Go Putin!
New Syrian Army is sunni jihadi. Blowing them up is a service to mankind. Im glad Russia doesn’t share our loony idea that only ISIS is bad.
All the rebels are SOBs that are no different than the Orlando guy.
So the US, UK and Jordan were backing a force of 50 that were supposed to topple isis and assad. Okay...
from Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil)

This is one of the few outlets of The Ministry of Propaganda that follow Obama’s use of ISIL instead of ISIS.
ISIL includes Israel, that’s why Obama uses it.
You need a program to keep up with the friend or foe de jour.

The NSA has been proudly attacking the forces of the democraticly elected and UN recognized government all along. The Russians are allied with that government by treaty.
Obama is outraged, and Kerry will carry a diplomatic communique about the displeasure.
The bipartisan, commie political class is showing its support for the Iranian nuclear weapons program and continuation of Russian expansionism.
Russia is Syria’s ally.
Those bombed were rebels.
In the eyes of Syria, there are no “good” rebels.
Anyone want to explain how Ukraine and Syria are different?
This group needs some Stingers to show Putin that there will be a high price for his aggression.
While I’m all for the Russian bombing the hell out of ISIS and its allies, and Al Qaeda and its allies, there are some groups that are fighting Assad who are not with the extremists.
While 50 guys won’t win the war, if they did cut the strategic supply lines of ISIS between Iraq and Syria, it would be an important victory.
We aren’t going to do it. The Russians aren’t going to do it. Assad isn’t going to do it.
That leaves ISIS/Al Qaeda still standing so if an Allied backed group is willing to do it, let’s help them. Otherwise, we are just standing still, treading water, and possibly losing more American military personnel in a NO-WIN operation.
I don’t trust Putin, or Assad, or Obama/Kerry. That doesn’t leave us with many other options except withdrawal and surrender by default.
Really? You want to arm jihadis seeking to overthrow a secular government which protects and allows Christians to practice their faith, for women to go to college and walk around without headscarves, etc.?? When is the neocon BS going to be put to rest and our country ally with the only Euro-Asian country not only not hostile to Christianity but promoting Christian culture?
Seriously, how daft can these idiots be. Putin's objectives are simple. Eliminate all threats to Assad, prop up his government, maintain access to bases and ports on the Med.
If we had their oil [as DJT suggests]...Putin wouldn’t be there
FOB; Fiends of 0bama..
Assad is a genocidal killer in training, like his father (Jews/Israeli, Lebanonese Christians, Jordanians, and his own people, often with Soviet/Russian and fugitive Nazi war criminals help). He uses the Syrian Christians for his goals, not theirs, but they are caught in an almost no-win situation. Be killed by the Jihadists or fight for a Neo-Nazi fascist leader.
50 members of one group are not going to overthrown Assad, but they can do some things on the ground our Marxist President will not do.
The Russians are out for the Russians, not for Christians, Moslems, Jews, Buddhists or Vegans. Putin wants to reestablish Russia’s old 1960s/70s bases/sphere of influence. Read a few history books if you don’t know what I’m talking about.
Do you think that a Russian nuclear arms base in Syria would be a good think for peace, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, or the US?
This is not a NeoCon position. It is an amalgam of many geo-strategic thinkers from the 1970’s and 80’s, US, Israeli, British, etc, who looked at the political and geographic landscape, both in their present and future, and saw what harm lies out there if not prepared for.
Syria was one leg of the future Nuclear Triad of Iraq, Iran and Syria, all with aims at destroying Israel, subverting Saudi Arabia and overthrowing the Hashmenite Kingdon of Jordan, the Gulf States/Oman and even Yemen (where the Soviets dropped poison bombs on anti-Marxist forces there in the 1960’s/70’s, using Egyptian pilots lent by Nasser. (Again, a little history lesson for you to read up on).
You have not heard Obama say one word about protecting Christians in the Middle East, and figures appearing in some of the media say that he/State Department/DHS have only let in a handful of Christian refugees from Syria and Iraq, while letting in 65,000 or more Moslems of varying factions.
With Obama, Kerry and Clinton as our foreign policy leaders, we will lose the Middle East to various forms of national and religious fascism that will make the Middle Ages seem like Utopia.
Sounds to me that they are sending a message to the 51 State Department traitors. Let me decipher the message for you idiots. You bomb Asad, they bomb you.
