Senate Democrats ended a nearly 15-hour filibuster early Thursday after Republican Party leaders reportedly agreed to allow votes on two proposed gun control measures.
Sen. Chris Murphy, a Democrat from Connecticut, said that a compromise had been reached. Votes would be held on whether to ban people on the government's terrorist watch list from obtaining gun licenses and whether to expand background checks to gun shows and internet sales, he added.
"We did not have that commitment when we started today," Murphy said.
The nonstop series of speeches stretched 14 hours and 50 minutes. It followed the shooting massacre at a gay nightclub in Orlando.

Great graphic!
Ditto.
This has been the most disappointing House and Senate in the history of the republic! Voted overwhelmingly with an unquestionable mandate in 2012 to stop Obama, the Republican establishment has squandered EVERY opportunity they have been given!
And they wonder why we have flocked to Trump.
Used to make loans to people. In training we were taught: “If you want a quick answer, the answer is no. If you want to give me time to review your file, I’ll get back to you with an answer by....” Wish politicians would get away from knee jerk, feel good responses and take time to review the facts.
That said, I fear the GOP will sell out its’ supporters again, giving me yet another reason to ignore their fund raising calls and letters.
Yes, correct, I should have said they do not require concealed carry license holders to undergo a background check when they purchase a firearm.
Thank you.
When you see “gun show loophole” or “internet sales”, those words don’t mean to a lib what they mean in Webster’s Dictioary.
They mean “private sales” to those of us who can read and understand English.
Instead of getting all twisted, I went to his site and left a message that we fully expect him to fully support the 2nd Amendment and not to fall into the trap of the false meme being put out about no-fly lists.
I also mentioned that the Constitution contains no "Noble Cause" clause.
You can stew and carp or you can take positive action - which will it be? Will you fret and worry or will you take a few seconds to remind him that we expect him to be true to his word on the 2nd Amendment?
Thank you for doing that. Now he has at least two such messages.
A private sale in CA. MUST also be done through a dealer in CA. BOTH parties must go to a dealer to transfer the firearm!!! San Bernadino shooter firearm was purchased by a third party no paperwork was done that 3rd party is NOW up on federal charges as well as state charges!!!
Good for you.
He's shown that he's open to discussion and so far he only said he would consider it - if his supporters (and those who may not be elated that he's the choice for our side) actually converse with him and point out that which is obvious to us, odds are he will respond in kind - he came a long way as his sons got into guns and the 2nd Amendment and I have high hopes for him.
There were some her that were wondering why someone being looked at for terrorism could still buy the weapons and I assume that most of them had the thought because it seemed to make sense and having the FBI say they didn't have enough to prosecute him rankled enough to make them have that lapse. I have had similar thoughts but have learned to step back and take a second look - sometimes before I open my blow-hole and sometimes with a twinge of embarrassment by spouting first - I tend to piss a lot of folks off but that's OK - hopefully they all get over it.
Right there with ya. I have nothing holding me down any more either.
My sentiments exactly.
bkmk
Almost as if they knew it was coming......
Yep.
And also amazing were all the san bernadino reports by neighbors of men coming and going all night at killer’s home, lugging boxes/containers into garage where leos found bombs, but no one was connected to it all. ‘locked phone’ was all too convenient, wasn’t it? gave those guys plenty of time to leave country or just disappear.
dhs/fbi etc STINK.
