Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) attended a confidential dinner with more than 20 top conservatives on Tuesday night to plan his comeback as a movement leader in the mold of Ronald Reagan.
The dinner was at the Virginia home of conservative activist Brent Bozell, and the agenda was to plot Cruzs future and the future of the conservative movement. The undertone of the dinner was about how to position Cruz for a future tilt at the presidency and to spearhead the conservative movement from his seat in the Senate, those in attendance said.
Dining with Cruz and his chief of staff, Paul Teller, were some of the most powerful figures in the conservative movement.
The spectrum of economic, national security and social conservatives seated at the table included Heritage Foundation President Jim DeMint, Club for Growth President David McIntosh, direct-mail guru Richard Viguerie, National Rifle Association board member and former Cincinnati Mayor Ken Blackwell, and Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser, sources confirmed.
According to those in attendance, the leaders discussed how they could work more effectively together and how to harness their vast financial and human networks in the service of conservative principles and Cruz's career.
Combined, those at the table have access to hundreds of millions of dollars and some of the largest ground armies on the right.
There was no specific discussion of electoral politics or whether Cruz will support presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump this cycle.
Many of the leaders at the dinner want Cruz to run for president again, and they are viewing Cruzs unsuccessful 2016 run as similar to Reagans failed attempt in 1976 to unseat the incumbent Republican president, Gerald Ford.

“appear more sincere “
Maybe he should try actually being sincere. Oh wait, he can’t, he’s a PHONY.
So, all in all, this little dinner of the pudges was pretty much a boo hoo party for the little warrior putz, Cruz.
Sheesh, good luck with that, losers, all.
Failing to do so is harming party unity.
Thus, Ted Cruz, by damaging party unity, is de facto helping Hillary's campaign.
Cruz is playing games. If he doesn't come around by convention time, he will have done severe damage.
Vote Trump!
I would not blame Ted Cruz for an instant if he declines to publicly support Donald Trump if Trump fails to apologize because every such commitment to support the nominee carries with it an implied condition that the nominee behave within civilized norms.
Please, with your support of Cruz, you'd probably be on the list as a potential informer that the FBI would use against all us cool kids who are actually on the domestic terrorist list.
<< I could NOT STAND Cruzs preachy way of speaking it was just intolerable !!!! “ >>
Many of us put the creep in office. His voice didn’t use to matter, and then came the springboard US Senate seat, where landed long enough to perform the pony tricks for the rubes and thought he was so very special that he should be the next president.
This, before he had his bags sat down, and off he was lining up forces, all boobs and globalists, blinded by his genius. If they missed his genius, he told them about it.
Then came the show boat performances. Always on the right issues talking the talk.
When it came to legislative recommendations and votes, this player never harmed the hair on the head of the globalists or their agenda.

Cruz is finger paint, a Paint By Numbers, for the Christian stupid Right who swallow that stuff up, whole.
But fear not, GLOBALISTS will come out of the woodwork to support this SOB, for another room. They saw that the Christian Right rubes make great mules for their own enslavement.
I uttered not a word against Donald Trump but against the fools who believe that tearing down Ted Cruz after the fact somehow builds up Donald Trump, against those who have distorted conservatism.
Your outrageous allegation that I am somehow “enabling the Butcher of Benghazi” is a perfect example of what is wrong not with your candidate but with you.
You have spent many months here bad mouthing Trump. Don’t try to walk that back.
A political party that frags its presumptive POTUS nominee to the benefit of the Butcher of Benghazi does not deserve to exist. We’re talking about life and death here. Americans will die if Hillary is elected. Murdered by criminal aliens and terrorists.
Ted Cruz deserves every bit of criticism he is getting for participating in this disgraceful Anti-Trump performance by the GOP establishment. Minimizing his sabotage reflects on you, FRiend.
While I voted for Cruz in the March 1 primary, I don’t expect him to be elected president in 2020 either. He should concentrate on the Senate or get out of politics. I see no presidential path for him ever.
I will consider your concerns over party loyalty a lot more sympathetically when when Trump and his supporters apologize for insinuating that Raphael Cruz is somehow complicit in the assassination of John F. Kennedy, the most recent example of which occurred even on this very thread.
I would not blame Ted Cruz for an instant if he declines to publicly support Donald Trump if Trump fails to apologize because every such commitment to support the nominee carries with it an implied condition that the nominee behave within civilized norms.
Trump never said such a thing. Your projecting like a Democrat.
Interestingly, at the time that issue was raised Rafael Cruz was a very busy CRUZ CAMPAIGN SURROGATE smearing Trump in private to Evangelical groups. Seems snowflake Cruzers can dish it out but not take it. Isn’t that special.
And will Ted Cruz apologize to the millions of Trump voters he personal insulted by calling them “low info”. Of course not. And you’re just fine with that.
*** The point now is whether his defeat this year means that his career is over. ***
I can only hope. The thing is, for me, Donald Trump didn’t
defeat Cruz. Cruz defeated himself. His faux mantle of righteousness routine while engaging in condescension,. deceit, and sleaze was too much for this Texan.
The Dominionist belief crap his bigamist Dad was pushing is not mainstream. It’s fringe. Oh, and his Citizenship is the cherry on top of it all.
Go away Ted, and your Globalist, cheap labor, selling out Americans pals can go with you, as far as I’m concerned.
Ted Cruz deserves every bit of criticism he is getting for participating in this disgraceful Anti-Trump performance by the GOP establishment. Minimizing his sabotage reflects on you, FRiend
There is no disgraceful anti-Trump performance done by Ted Cruz.period.FULL STOP.
Obviously someone whom you believe is "enabling the Butcher of Benghazi" is not your "FRiend" and I certainly have no desire to be one.
What "thing?"
Be careful, I said that Trump "insinuated" complicity in the assassination and that he cynically and cleverly did. You are the one who is projecting like a Democrat.
If Cruz keeps hanging out with that crowd he will wind up being a dog catcher in some dusty, podunk, west Texas town.
Sorry...not a “culty”. Your stereotyping is unbecoming.
Yeah, i know. The elites are so keen on stabbing him in the back, they aren’t even bothering to include his name ANYWHERE on their website.
Let me just put it this way: I’ve read several different places that it’s standard procedure for the GOP presumptive nominee to be an active participant in planning of the party platform that gets presented for a vote. Because after all, he’s going to be the one representing the party. That may not even be accurate. Thanks for the clarification.
I don’t know about all the former Cruz supporters from other states, so I’m speaking only for myself, one of the voters who gave him his Senate seat.
He LIED to us. We’ve been betrayed. He was not who he claimed to be. Couch it in whatever terms you want, but he lied by omission to get elected to the Senate.
If you don’t know what I’m talking about, that just means you didn’t do enough research on the fellow you support.
It’s never too late to dig deeper. :-)
There is no disgraceful anti-Trump performance done by Ted Cruz.period.FULL STOP.
The hubris and amnesia of the deluded Cruz supporter never ends. Of course you can’t recall Cruz recently giving a media availability specifically to frag Trump on the “Mexican” judge nonsense. A political party that frags it’s nom to the benefit of Hillary Rotten Criminal does not deserve to exist. Follow them into the dust bin of history if you so chose.
A pledge is a pledge, and your claim that Trump insinuated that Raphael Cruz is somehow complicit in the assassination of John F. Kennedy is, as usual, false.
I don't care if Trump called Cruz's mother a whore!
If Cruz can't overlook all the juvenile insults in the world in order to preserve this Republic by doing everything in his power to see to it that Hillary Clinton isn't elected, then he's no conservative and no Patriot. And showing party unity is critical to that process.
Donald Trump has repeatedly complimented Ted Cruz since the Indiana Primary, and Cruz has shown no grace whatsoever in return.
This election is too important for the type of immature pettiness that Ted Cruz is displaying. He lost. It's time to face that fact and start working towards beating Hillary. Refusing to unify is placing that goal in ever greater jeopardy. You can gripe about Trump's pettiness all you want, but he has won the nomination, and that's that.
As usual, Ted Cruz is once again ceding the moral high ground to Trump. AND THAT TAKES SOME DOING.
Either Cruz has enough integrity to honor his pledge, or he is precisely the selfish liar that many believe he is.
He's already risking the future of the Republic by playing his cowardly delaying game.
Cruz's honor and integrity further wane with each passing day that he doesn't help unify the party.
Ted Cruz is being a vindictive, bitter snowflake, and he deserves all the criticism he gets for doing so.
Vote Trump!
Thank you, very well said.
