A congressional push to ban or restrict gun sales for those on terror watch lists gained bipartisan momentum Wednesday, with everyone from key Republican lawmakers to Donald Trump to the National Rifle Association opening the door to discussing the idea.
The presumptive Republican presidential nominee indicated interest in the push in a tweet Wednesday morning announcing a meeting with the NRA.
....The NRA, for its part, has walked a fine line on such proposals. On Tuesday, it tweeted that bans for people on watch lists are "ineffective, unconstitutional, or both."
Chris Cox, director of the NRA Institute for Legislative Action, clarified Wednesday that the NRA "believes that terrorists should not be allowed to purchase or possess firearms, period."
He said those on a watch list who try to buy a gun "should be thoroughly investigated by the FBI and the sale delayed while the investigation is ongoing." If there's evidence of terrorist activity, he said, the sale should be blocked and the suspect arrested. But he added, "At the same time, due process protections should be put in place that allow law-abiding Americans who are wrongly put on a watchlist to be removed."

I don’t recall DT definitively saying he wants a ban for those on No Fly list. My impression of the meeting is he’s getting info. Maybe he used that wording to troll the media like he always does...
If the Commiecrats get elected, soon 300 million citizens will be on the watch list.
I always get a 3 day hold on NICS but apparently terrorists get approved right away.
And that’s my problem with the NRA. Most of the gun control laws on the books were passed with their blessing.
What? Omar Mateen was on none of those lists. Omar Mateen was full on sharia. How about banning Sharia?
Be a lot better to just ban the muslims from America. They’re totally incompatible with the Constitution.

Shades of Elohim City, and OKC.
Paging Professor Raoul X.
Every American, except the Muslims, are on their stupid “watch list.”
Throw those GOP bums out and put in non-politically correct lovers of freedom and America.
“Democrat Muslim was cleared by the FBI! “
If they are that incompetent, can you imagine what’s going on in the Hilarity investigation?
Yep, and just when I thought they grew a pair.
Once again, the 2nd is a privilege subject to gov approval.
Get ‘em while you can.
We do not know how one gets on the watch list, nor do we know if it is possible to get off the watch list, nor do we now who is on the watch list.
With this administration, it’s probably people who show too much reverence for the Constitution, patriotism for America and other things they find abhorent.
Undoubtedly close to the plan.
Hillary will probably subpoena your records to put us all on her watch list.
So you are an NRA member eh? We are watching you.
Apparently, mere suspicion is sufficient to deny citizens their civil and due process rights—Am I right, Mr. Trump?
Our forefathers knew that, I’m pretty sure they would be aghast that we have let so many into the country.
John Quincy Adams on Islam
In the seventh century of the Christian era, a wandering Arab of the lineage of Hagar, the Egyptian, combining the powers of transcendent genius, with the preternatural energy of a fanatic, and the fraudulent spirit of an impostor, proclaimed himself as a messenger from Heaven, and spread desolation and delusion over an extensive portion of the earth. Adopting from the sublime conception of the Mosaic law, the doctrine of one omnipotent God; he connected indissolubly with it, the audacious falsehood, that he was himself his prophet and apostle. Adopting from the new Revelation of Jesus, the faith and hope of immortal life, and of future retribution, he humbled it to the dust, by adapting all the rewards and sanctions of his religion to the gratification of the sexual passion. He poisoned the sources of human felicity at the fountain, by degrading the condition of the female sex, and the allowance of polygamy; and he declared undistinguishing and exterminating war, as a part of his religion, against all the rest of mankind. THE ESSENCE OF HIS DOCTRINE WAS VIOLENCE AND LUST: TO EXALT THE BRUTAL OVER THE SPIRITUAL PART OF HUMAN NATURE.
Between these two religions, thus contrasted in their characters, a war of twelve hundred years has already raged. That war is yet flagrant; nor can it cease but by the extinction of that imposture, which has been permitted by Providence to prolong the degeneracy of man. While the merciless and dissolute dogmas of the false prophet shall furnish motives to human action, there can never be peace upon earth, and good will towards men. The hand of Ishmael will be against every man, and every mans hand against him. It is, indeed, amongst the mysterious dealings of God, that this delusion should have been suffered for so many ages, and during so many generations of human kind, to prevail over the doctrines of the meek and peaceful and benevolent Jesus (Blunt, 1830, 29:269, capitals in orig.)
"...Restricting gun buys for those on watchlist..."
1. Who decides to put someone on the watch list?
2. What standard of proof is required?
3. How does the individual get notified?
4. How does he appeal the determination?
5. Who pays for his legal representation?
In reality, the “watch list” needs to be run through the court system, with all its checks and limitations on governmental power. AND that includes the right to counsel.
The same must apply to any “mental illness” determination.
1. Who decides what is “mental illness?”
2. What standard of proof is required?
Etc.
I think this latter one is even more dangerous than the watch list. A Leftist shrink could decide that all conservatives are mentally ill, or that wanting to own a gun or being a Christian is sufficient evidence of mental illness. I trust them all about as far as I can throw them.
