That's understandable. Belgians think Belgium is a country and not just a rest stop on the road from Berlin to Paris.

to be fair... Belgium is about 11,000 square miles.
Greater Los Angeles with its suburbs in the Inland Empire are bout 10,500 square miles....

and you can traverse both sections almost by stepping from rooftop to rooftop from houses to businesses to local shops... without ever touching the ground.

Belgium is not much larger than several of the worlds major metropolitan cities... inclusive of their suburbs. I can see why a New York City boy (brooklyn, queens, the bronx and other areas altogether) might have a tendency to see the whole country as pretty much... just as one city/state.
