The European Union’s ambassador to Turkey has quit after criticizing the Turks for their handling of a deal to tackle the refugee crisis, and telling them they should be more like Germans.

Under the terms of the controversial pact, Turkey gets cash and visa-free travel to the EU in return for taking back migrants illegally crossing the Mediterranean to Europe. Turkey also wants discussions on it joining the EU to be restarted as the price for its help.

The European Commission has set 72 conditions that Turkey must meet to get visa-free travel. But negotiations have stalled over the EU’s demand that Turkey narrow its definition of terror in its anti-terror laws that have been used to justify the arrests of academics and journalists.

Hansjörg Haber, a veteran German diplomat, resigned after telling Turks they should be more like Germans if they want visa-free travel to Europe. …

The EU will dearly regret the “visa-free travel” provision. Mark my words.

England, if it Brexits, will thank it’s lucky stars, assuming it puts in stronger immigration controls.

I’ve never pursued it, but I am eligible for dual citizenship with the UK. My uncle (a Briton) pointed out that I could live anywhere in Europe under the current arrangement if I did it.

If I had decided to live in Germany, I would focus first on making a living of course, and then on language and culture. I would want to fit in and be an asset, and not a liability. people used to feel that way when they came to America.

How is it now a bad thing to want to be a part of your host country?

How many non-European and Mohammadan countries should be admitted to the EU? Not more than zero. Britain, get out while you can. The EU needs to go back to being a coal agreement between France and Germany.
