We didn’t have to. The followers of those ideologies KNEW they would be killed if they continued on that road.
I’m afraid however that it will be different with islam. Since a moslem is commanded to lie if he can gain advantage by it, we will eventually be forced to eradicate entire populations to purge this plague out of our earth.
