The use of the word “partner” here is awkward, as it often is.

While the woman “also worked in the local police administration,” I don’t think she was a “partner” in the police sense, as in, “My partner and I arrested the thief.” She was his girlfriend, but, of course, that word is a no-no.

When people introduce me to their “partner,” I then need to figure out a way to determine if this person is a business partner or a bedroom partner. Or both. Or just a good friend.

Yea that jumped out at me as code for he is gay. I had to read the rest of the story to get it straitened out.

I assumed it was a homosexual partner until they finally identified her as female below the fold.
