Sad to think that the Highlanders used to constitute an entire division or more of the British Army, indeed they were perhaps the toughest regular infantry troops on any battlefield anywhere, and now they constitute a mere battalion of one regiment (and the second battalion at that) and are reduced to recruiting heavily from Fiji and other commonwealth nations.

Scotland has changed a lot in the past fifty years and not always for the better.
