In response to falling sales of diet soda, last year PepsiCo changed the sweetener in its main calorie-free beverage, Diet Pepsi. Noting the health concerns that some customers have about the original sweetener in Diet Pepsi, aspartame, the company switched to a different sweetener last year to try to reverse a sales decline. Now sales are declining even faster.
Customers had time to adjust to the idea of Diet Pepsi without aspartame, since rumors about sweetener tests have appeared in these very pages since 2012.
The version of the beverage sweetened with a blend of sucralose (Splenda) and acesulfame potassium (branded as Ace K) started to appear on shelves last summer, just in time for peak cold-beverage season, and the company admitted that some fans of the beverage were not happy with the new formula. Specifically, they received about 3,000 complaints from customers, and only about 300 compliments for the new formula.
The Wall Street Journal reports that some local Pepsi bottlers have received notice that changes will be coming to the brands diet sodas soon. Pepsi declined to comment on the matter.

Is that with or without aborted fetal tissue for flavoring?
OR ELSE.
Looked up cyclamates. Wikipedia says that they usually mix it 10:1 with sacchyrin (which is ten times sweeter, so it’s 1:1 as far as sweetening effects go). Supposedly, it’s to minimize the bitter taste of both sweeteners. Anything that has to be mixed with sacchyrin because it’s too bitter on its own... yuck! Sacchyrin is NASTY! I’m not talking about its dubious alleged carcinogenic effect; I just mean it tastes AWFUL.
So why does Europe really use cyclamates? They’re the cheapest sweetener out there.
I’ve always wondered. If you have to have artificial sweetener in your soda then why even drink soda? The stuff tastes awful.
Jack Daniel’s with Pespsi - holy heck no. Pepsi isn’t worthy of the pairing. I only drink a JD-Coke with warm coke, no ice, and Motörhead.
I only need a little water after a long night of drinking beer.
Cyclamates are banned in the U.S., having been reviewed by the FDA under four different commissioners, including under the Nixon, Carter and Reagan administrations. The U.K. and Philippines reversed their bans on cyclamates.
You want a Pepsi, pal, you’re gonna pay for it.
All I wanted was a Pepsi....Just One Pepsi!
The ban on cyclamates is a combination of ‘consensus science’ and ‘follow the money’.
Like it or not, aspartame is the best tasting sugar substitute.
I drank diet Pepsi by preference. The new formula sucks! I rarely drink one now.
I go mom, just get me a Pepsi! Please, all I want is a Pepsi! And she wouldn’t give it to me! All I wanted was a Pepsi, just one Pepsi, and she wouldn’t give it to me! Just a Pepsi!
Yep-pop is free at work and I still drink only water. If it were coke products I might indulge once in awhile, but Pepsi isn’t even tempting.
Mojitos are good.
I see what you did there!
We have Pepsi products where I work so when people order a Jack and Coke they receive a Jack and Pepsi. I like Coke but will not take even a sip of Pepsi and wonder if customers can tell the difference in their drink. No one ever complains, thought.
When I was a rumdum drinking only Bacardi and coke, I would know when Pepsi was substituted.
