Obama seeks to broker peace between Clinton and Sanders
The Hill ^ | June 9, 2016 | Jordan Fabian

President Obama made the call a day after Bernie Sanders vowed to fight Hillary Clinton all the way to the Democratic convention in Philadelphia.

The tense primary fight between the heavily favored Clinton and her liberal challenger had already gone on much longer than anyone had anticipated.

While Clinton had a clear lead in votes and pledged delegates, Sanders’s most vocal supporters were showing no signs of giving in. Despite Donald Trump’s stumbles on the GOP side, Democrats worried their presidential candidate could be hurt if their party were too divided in the fall.

Obama can be all-in for Hillary publicly and still torpedo her to get Biden in the race.

‘I’m thinking that Obama will blow this meeting with Sanders so bad Bernie will threaten to run third party.’

Trust Obama to blow it. He’s got the charm and diplomacy of a Coral snake. It’s late for third party efforts; Sanders best shot might be disrupting the convention.

The Democratic Party belongs to Obama and his crowd. Why in the world would he want the Clintonistas or the Bernie Brigades in control of it?

He has to have a Republican successor to get his legacy. A Democrat following him means he only gets credit for the failures but not the wins. With a Republican, he can claim that any victory was set up by him and any failure gets blamed on the Republican. Not true but his followers are dumb enough to buy it.

obozo is going to make Sanders an offer he can't refuse to tell his followers to support the hag. Sanders should publicly share what the obozo’s offer is.

“The Democratic Party belongs to Obama”

It’s her turn now. Obama’s time is over.

But he’s not going to go quietly into the night and she will not let him get in her way to the thrown like he did in 2008. Remember that Hillary?

Stock up on popcorn. It’s gonna be a long hot summer.

Hot town summer in the city
Back of my neck getting dirt and gritty
Been down, isn’t it a pity
Doesn’t seem to be a shadow in the city
All around people looking half dead
Walking on the sidewalk hotter than a match head

It’s going to be a corker.

What a bunch of malarkey! Did he have the teleprompter for the phone call? It was probably Jarrett on the phone.

He could. But I’m betting we Freepers will sense the perhaps subtle softness if that is his plan. Watch for any mention of the Email business coming from the White House.

Obama wants Bernie out of the race entirely because when the email story blows up on her (with the approval of Obama) the path can then be cleared for Biden to step in as the White Knight to save the party and ensure Obama of preserving his agenda and influence into the next president’s term. He would literally own Biden. But he needs to get Bernie completely out of the picture first.

The Clintonistas still have power but my money is on the president to keep hold on the Democrats even if it means a Hillary defeat, which he would probably prefer, since that would end the Clintons influence in the party. Personally, I think the president wants Cory Booker or even his wife to be the nominee in four years.

We will soon see if Sanders is the true believer he claim’s himself to be. Will he abandon his pursuit of national socialism?

It would be cool if Bernie said, with a wry smile, “I’ve had a good run in life, go for it Little Barry.”

That is certainly true. In fact, he’s staying in DC where he can maintain his influence and meddle with policies. He knows the Clintons will not be easy to control. The same could be said of Bernie because he’s a true believer. Biden on the other hand could be easily manipulated, in effect ensuring Obama a third term.

Yes. The Post-Hillary choices would likely center on Biden and/or Elizebeth Warren. I’m still betting this is a better than a 50% chance.

How could Obama resist a “Third Term” and a chance to finally put those Clinton’s in their place.

Obama has two concerns: Who controls the party and who will best protect his legacy and programs. If Hillary gets elected, the Clintons will regain control over the party. But Hillary will protect his legacy better than Trump.

Business is business. Biden would be better on both counts, but how do you insert him into the process without totally alienating Bernie's supporters?

The FBI is the fly in the ointment. If they recommend an indictment even if the DOJ refuses to prosecute, Hillary's bid for the Presidency will be severely damaged. And the timing of the FBI's decision is crucial. If it happens before the convention, it could actually be worse for the Dems to have a battle play out a week after the GOP convention. After the convention, Hillary could decide to ride it out by deny, deny, deny. The Dem base will still support her claiming it is all political, especially if DOJ decides not to prosecute.
