When I lived in small towns in the PNW and the Rocky Mntn states we couldn't wait to get out of town. Hiking, hunting, fishing, meeting other people at the good swimming areas. THEN the bongs and the weed would come out ;)

Three decades ago I sang in a wannabe rock band; we played for a party that dragged generators and kegs of beer to the top of a hill in a forestry area in OR with no trails except a logging track, you had to be a mountain goat and fight brush and holly to get to the clearing on top. And yet hundreds of young people showed up.

Today they'd just stay home and play Warcraft.
