Mayte Lara tweeted after graduating from Crockett High School in Austin
But the Texas teenager also mentioned that she was 'undocumented'
Federal law does not prohibit states from providing in-state tuition to undocumented students
High school graduation season is in full swing and Twitter and Facebook are jam-packed with pictures of jubilant teenagers but one girl's tweet has landed her in a whole lot of trouble.
Mayte Lara, from Crockett High School in Austin, Texas, tweeted: 'Valedictorian, 4.5GPA, full tuition paid for at UT, 13 cords and medals, nice legs, oh and I'm undocumented.'
(snip)
The fact that Lara has publicly admitted to being undocumented will not, however, compromise her offer of full tuition at University of Texas.
A spokesman for the university said: 'In accordance with state law, Texas universities - including the University of Texas schools - have for decades granted two-semester tuition waivers to valedictorians of Texas public high schools, without regard to their residency status.
'State law also does not distinguish between documented and undocumented graduates of Texas high schools in admissions and financial aid decisions. University policies reflect that law'.

She’ll probably go the academia route. No need to work.
Butterface.
You’re right. And if she had just said something like “I regret that my parents brought me here illegally and that the burden of the expense for my education fell on the shoulders of hardworking strangers. But I am grateful for the opportunity they have given me and will work towards citizenship and promise to become a hardworking person who contributes to this great nation”, I would probably applaud her. But nope. No gratitude at all. Just a sense of entitlement. Ship her out. I don’t care where to.
Ouch, that hurt.
Just givin the dog a bone.......
Or at least say, “Thank God I got out of that stinking hellhole known as Mexico, and made it here. God Bless America!”
There ought to be a law!...wait....I’m confused.
Oh, and those are rug burns on her knees...not that there's anything wrong...
At least here in CA, students get a 5.0 for an “A” in an Advanced Placement (AP) class. These classes are the equivalent of first year, general education, college courses.
I assume she cheated on tests just like she cheated in coming to this country. So her real grade point average must be something like 2.0, 2.5? But, still, I hope she gets what she deserves in life. After the deportation, that is.
Before long she’ll look like Yosemite Sam.
Yep. In the shadows.
Here’s a great graduation present for her: A BILL FOR THE EDUCATION SHE WASN’T ENTITLED TO!
A ‘butterface’.
So, some American kid loses out to this person here in the US illegally? Welcome to Obama’s world.
Your home country needs you way more than we do, honey.
And when you get there, could you give this girl a visa application?
We've got a multitude of jobs in her field American women are unwilling to do ;)
I could watch that 1000 times and not get tired of it.
Send her back where she came from. She takes pride in breaking our laws by being here illegally.
Re “And I’m undocumented”. If our govt had any balls, she’d have a document, an ICE deportation order. Let her use her education to improve her birth country instead of sponging off of the US taxpayer.
Afterwards:
She ought to be in her home country and her slot given to a citizen.
The country where she’s a legal citizen should be thrilled to get her back.
