This is only the start of the crisis of Albany vs. Upstate.
Albany has been ignoring upstate NY for years: business climate, infrastructure replacment, roads, bridges, and highways, electrical power, etc.
Cuomo's political and financial interest is singularly drawn to Downstate, New York City, and Long Island to the detriment of the rest of the State.
Upstate, bridges are rusting hulks, the thruway has become a patchwork of temporary repairs, lead is found in the drinking water in many schools, while taxes keep increasing
but Cuomo has been singularly interested in building a TappenZee bridge replacement for which there is no money listed in the State budget.
Misplaced priorities result in displaced politicos !
Yep, Cuomo could care less about upstate, he’s a NYC socialist. He vetoed Fracking north of the PA border as it would have brought millions to a poor area and provided thousands of jobs.
The big focus of investment money for Cuomo, for some reason, is Buffalo. Vast amounts of resources (time and money) has been invested, especially in the waterfront and in an old steel mill location (Solar City). Investors have been pouring money into this area on housing, etc. Even Central Terminal, the old railroad depot (huge structure) has the interest of a Toronto investor. Hospitals are in the process of relocating to a Medical Corridor which is vast and will include the involvement of the State of New York, Buffalo Medical School. There is also speculation that the Buffalo Bills will have a new stadium in downtown Buffalo and there will certainly be state money involved in that facility. It’s pretty amazing to see, but I’m not sure why this is happening because for years, Buffalo was the rust belt that nobody cared about.
