And the Arabs attacked during the peaceful and holy month of ramadan.

If memory serves it was Israel who attacked, launching their preemptive strike before the Arabs could. And while it's problematic whether the Arabs would have attacked there was no way any rational government could have taken that risk that it was all bluster.

It was Egypt that attacked Israel by blockading their shipping routes through the Gulf of Aqaba and the Suez Canal; the Arab states also broadcast their intentions, and the start date was even known via intel. Israel's preemptive strike led to near-complete air supremacy, and made it possible for a not-very-well-off nation (most of tiny Israel didn't even have a reliable TV broadcast signal at that time) that was far outnumbered to shred the ground forces of hostile "neighbors" who were ready to invade.
