Obama: “I got people who we know have been on ISIL Web sites ... but because of the National Rifle Association, I cannot prohibit those people from buying a gun.”
Interesting. I’ve never heard the U.S. Constitution referred to as the “National Rifle Association” before. Still, if the National Rifle Association rather than the Constitution is what’s actually keeping Obama from prohibiting gun ownership based solely on which web sites folks visit, then all I can say is thank God for the National Rifle Association.
So President Obama wants to prevent NSA, CIA, DOD and FBI agents from buying guns? I doubt it. So what he is really saying is that he wants to see what people read, and then decide to take away their rights based on that information plus some other factors he gets to pick. I wonder if he will include whether or not the person reading the ISIS website has Islam as their religion? Or maybe he'll just give everybody that works for the government a pass. But that didn't work out so well at Fort Hood, did it.
Is he OK with banning the ownership of firearms by Muslims who visit an ISIS web site? If he can convince Congress, he could have the laws on firearms purchases changed to add a couple of entries to the 4473:
(1) Are you a Muslim? Y/N
(2) Have you ever read material posted or authored by by ISIS? Y/N
So why doesn't President Obama propose that? Because he knows it would never pass Congress, or a Supreme Court challenge. And it would be an affront to our Constitution.
Of course President Obama also says that temporarily halting immigration from certain areas or religious groups would be an affront to our nation's values. But in his speeches, as a "constitutional scholar" taking away people's rights because of what they read along with some other hidden factors (e.g. because he wants to) is fine.
That tells you all you need to know about the modern liberal mind.
