I’d like to share the one instance I saw Ali in the early 80s. He was met at LAX by a limo driver. They were waiting at the luggage carousel when a person asked for an autograph. Others approached. Ali was there for at least 20 minutes until everyone got their autographs. He posed for photos with kids on his shoulders. Class act, not at all like some spoiled celebrities.

I hope he converts back, quickly.

Sad of course. I once was a boxing fan and saw some of his fights on the television. I note the mention of Parkinson's Disease caused by head blows. I know in England they do studies on the brain of dead persons. I read of Boxing idols of the 1950's in Britain showing signs of brain damage after a post mortem. Doctor Edith Summerskill of the ruling Labour Party said Boxing should be banned at the time. Great scoffs and remarks from nearly all.
Ali named for Cassius Marcellus Clay 1810-1903 Republican. He was an abolitionist and was shot at an abolitionist meeting in 1843. He recovered and survived an assassination attempt by six men in 1849, killing one of them. Yet Ali said he "ain't having no slave name". This to explain his name change. I did read he joined the Muslims to keep organized crime figures away.

I used to live across the street from him on the South Side of Chicago. There was nothing cooler than watching him emerge from his building’s underground parking ramp in his Rolls. He dwarfed the car!

I’m very sorry to learn about this.

The first bet I ever made was that that loud mouth didn't have a chance against Sonny Liston.
I was absolutely shocked.

Elijah Muhammed and his crew made Ali fight way past what was reasonable for the money. Sorry to see this.

You know you’ve lived through some crazy stuff when “Muhammad Ali” is a gentle moderate and elder statesman.

I've attended a lot of sports events in my life. I was there when Mays made the catch. I was there when Summerall kicked the 49 yard field goal in the snow. I've been on hand for four triple crown winners. Among the greatest sports events I've witnessed, and I only did it remotely in a movie theater in Springfield, Mass., was the first Ali-Frazier fight.

Y’all remember this? I sure do. I haven’t heard that song since junior high or so. But I never forgot those lyrics.
Muhammad
Muhammad Ali
He floats like a butterfly
And stings like a bee
He moves like
The black superman
I’m Ali - catch me if you can

The death and funeral of Muhammad Ali will require wall-to-wall coverage by the mainstream media to the exclusion of anything so mundane as the California primary, especially if Trump and Bernie win.

I really liked Muhammad Ali when I was younger but soured on him as I got older. Probably the two biggest issues are his treatment of Joe Frazier and his embrace of Islam. I wish Ali would have listened to George Foreman's Gospel presentation. I understand that Big George has tried numerous times.
I continue to respect Ali's boxing abilities even as I soured on him as a person. If there could be a round-robin tournament of all the great heavyweight champions of all time, I suspect Ali would emerge at the top of the standings, although I doubt he would be unbeaten.
