True, and there are many shotguns of various styles and qualities that lack serial numbers, too. I’ve noticed the Winchester pattern myself, with a pre-war 69A Match and a slightly older Model 52.
The 52 represents a certain classic perfection in a rimfire. My current .22 attention getter is a Weatherby Mark XXII with the integral mount Weatherby scope from 1975. It was the gun you wanted, but your folks bought you the Markin 60 with the pressed checkering squirrel.
