Your post runs to one of the roots of the problem, in my opinion.

Everything about the military has to do with averages, covering everything from what you can expect physically from people under extreme conditions of privation and stress, to medical care, to the right kinds of supplies that have to be delivered in the right quantities, to the right places, at the right time.

And this isn’t even addressing issues such as unit cohesion and the adverse effects on mission capability in mixed gender units.

When only one gender is involved, there is a general bell curve that covers many aspects from unit performance to supplies consumed.

When there are two genders, that bell curve looks more like a two-humped camel curve, and you have to adjust logistics and unit performance to cater to the lower of the two curves, unless you are fully prepared, in a critical combat situation, to simply abandon the performance restrictions of the lower of the two curves so as to preserve the functionality of the inhabitants of the higher curve.
