I would rather have my kids living with us after college while working and trying to save up for a house, and keep the money in the family, than to give money to another family in the form of rent.

Exactly correct.
A decent, kind, and hard-working kid living at home while he or she saves a few dimes is not such a horror.
Having a child living elsewhere, with a pile of roommates, and sending money to someone else isn't so attractive.

Bingo, just said the same thing. My kids are great and we all love having good times together. They help me and I help them, and the little ones love the big ones!
