MH370: new photo debunks 'planted debris' conspiracy theory

Jeff Wise, a private pilot and freelance writer, who has written a book on MH370, was among those to suggest the parts were planted. "There is only one reasonable conclusion to draw from the condition of these pieces. Since natural means could not have delivered them to the locations where they were discovered, they must have been put there deliberately. They were planted," he wrote last month.

Assuming oceans currents in that area flow in a basically westerly direction then spots in the southwestern portion of the Indian Ocean are where you’d expect to find debris.

Here is what I got out of the linked article:

1. Debris reported as wreckage of the missing flight MH370 has turned up on various shorelines around the Indian Ocean.

2. Some people were suspicious that the debris might have been planted, citing a lack of marine life on the debris, which must have spent a long time in the Indian Ocean.

3. Then, as if in answer to the doubt, a man posts a picture of debris complete with barnacles washed ashore in South Africa.

4. The debris in the picture has many barnacles all around the edges but not on the surface where painted markings are visible.

5. But all he has is a picture - he doesn't have the piece of debris and it cannot be found where he took the picture.

6. About three months later it is reported that the debris in the picture has been found.
   It must have been floating in the ocean when found because it is referred to as "flotsam".

7. When the flotsam is found there are no barnacles on it but the painted markings are still visible.

8. The piece of flotsam turned out to be a piece of an engine cowling with the markings identified as a Rolls-Royce logo.

9. The cowling and the logo are consistent with those on flight MH370 but not positively identified as being from MH370.
