Was it (Brazilian) Castroneves who said that his favorite part of the Indy 500 pre-race activities is the playing of our Star-Spangled Banner? How awesome is that? Speaks volumes of him.

I grew up with Indy 500 on Memorial Day race on radio and family picnic. I was born and raised there. It meant school was out for summer. That was good old days as they say.

There is/was nothing more moving than over 300,000 people to silent without even being ordered...happened when they started playing taps. The entire speedway went quiet...AWESOME.

An American won the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500!
24 year old rookie, Alexander Rossi from Auburn, California, a 66-1 longshot, won it literally finishing on fumes.
After taking the checkered flag, his car ran out if gas and had to be towed to the victory party.
A nice win for Andretti Autosport too.
