Drawing a gun and getting a non-compliant response (”go ahead and shoot me!”) definitely makes things a lot more dangerous.

Well ya...for the guy you are going to shoot. One shouldn't draw unless prepared to shoot, a drawn weapon isn't meant to deescalate an encounter. That thought process (If I draw the gun the bad guy will run away) could be fatal.

Certainly, you must be prepared to shoot. But 95%+ of the time, they run away, or desescalate in some other fashion, according to John Lott.
