So mass fire bombings of Tokyo and other cities and what we did to Dresden were just accidents and only targeted at military facilities? Man.. People are getting *DUMB* with time.

The atomic bombs were drops in the buckets compared to the conventional hellfire unleashed that were directly aimed at civilian targets in order to destroy enemy moral.

It’s amazing how stupid and ignorant people like you are.

Just war theory dates back to when people were fighting with swords and arrows. It applies no matter what the weapon is. If civilian areas of Tokyo and Dresden were specifically targeted (and I do not know that they were) yes, that would have been immoral. You cannot deliberately target civilians in war. Period. End of story.

The fire bombings of Tokyo and other cities of Japan in late February and March 1945 helped to shorten the war and reduce the Japanese ability to wage war. One goal was to destroy Japanese heavy industry but they also killed hundreds of thousands of Japanese.

Because it shortened the war, the bombings saved far more lives than were lost during the bombings.

During WWII the Japanese military ordered all Japanese citizens to fight to the death and to kill as many Americans as possible. Almost every Japanese citizen was a combatant. The Japanese also did not treat the people they conquered as civilians. They routinely raped and murdered woman in conquered areas. They regularly killed children.

The Japanese military made no distinction between combatants and civilians either for their own people or for the people they conquered.

The fire bombing of Dresden in February 1945 was a huge error by the allies.

During the Yalta Conference on February 4, 1945, the Deputy Chief of the Soviet General Staff, General Antonov, raised the issue of hampering the reinforcement of German troops from the western front by paralyzing the junctions of Berlin and Leipzig with aerial bombardment. In response, the allies prepared a list of objectives to discuss with the Soviets. The list included oil plants, tank and aircraft factories and the cities of Berlin and Dresden. Stalin asked for the bombing of Dresden. Stalin had demanded allied air support for the Soviet invasion of Germany. Stalin demanded air strikes on several German cities and other targets. Stalin said Dresden was an important city in the German defense and demanded the allies bomb it.

The fire bombing of Dresden killed an estimated 500,000 civilians, mostly women and children.
