Should be recoverable.

Yes, they’ll recover it but it’ll cost a lot of bucks to do it and restore it.

I love the P-47. Also the F4U Corsair.

Shows how ignorant the press is about airplanes,,,,and Lord knows what else.

The P-47 is no small plane. In its day it was one hell of a mean machine.

Right on! It was probably one of the largest fighters of WWII and was mean, like you said.

Next to the P-51, the P-47 scored the greatest number of airplane kills in WWII. It was a great workhorse for the USAAF.

These old warbirds are slowly disappearing. Just last month we lost two P-51’s. I attribute a bunch of it to today’s pilots not being qualified to fly them. Not in the sense of having the ability but they do not fly them enough to keep proficient. At least 1 hr./wk. is probably the minimum needed to maintain proficiency.

There are of course some crashes that are the result of mechanical issues but more often than not it is pilot error as well as pilots not versed enough in emergency procedures.

So that’s what all the helicopters are about outside my western window. Glad the guy was OK.

You make a good point.

These planes are not inexpensive to fly, they guzzle fuel and maintenance has to to a big cost.

This P-47 had the full bubble canopy I think it was a P-47D.

It was called Jacky’s Revenge.

Picture in the article.

Was supposed to be in an air show tomorrow in Bethpage,Long Island.

Correct, when I posted the article there was no pic as to which model it was so I posted that pic, it was the later bubble model.

No problem. I think the bubble canopies made the P-47 and the P-51 into beautiful planes.
