Ejection is ride atop a mini rocket that poses its own set of risks, including canopy clearance or bodily impact with flying parts resulting from collision. It’s a miracle all four are alert and okay.
The part about flying into the canopy during an ejection, is partially wrong. There is molded into the canopy a “string” of det. cord. During the ejection process, the canopy is fragmented & blown away form the flight crew, right before the ejection seat is activated. If the person is lucky enough they’ll return to flight status in a few months. The spinal column is compressed to such an extent that a person is only allowed to eject 3 times during a course of a 20 + year career in the military aviation. They can loose up to 3 inches in height with every ejection, because it is so violent.
