Not the first one - just saw an hour long TV show on this bear:

Photo in the News: Polar Bear-Grizzly Hybrid Discovered
http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2006/05/bear-hybrid-photo.html

May 11, 2006—DNA analysis has confirmed that a bear shot in the Canadian Arctic last month is a half-polar bear, half-grizzly hybrid. While the two bear species have interbred in zoos, this is the first evidence of a wild polar bear-grizzly offspring.

And the money line is that the offspring are fertile.

That means that this is OK in Mother Nature's book, and it most certainly isn't something "new" and a result of, dare I say it...global warming climate change.

The Polar bears need to build a wall around their territory and get the grizzly bears to pay for it.

In my family that is a familiar quote. It gets used whenever someone goes on a rant and starts exaggerating a bit. They are met with “Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together...”

Why I am belaboring this? Because the existence of polar bears and grizzly bears proves nothing about the future climate of Earth though it may speak to climates past.

From the author: “Mr Ishalook had actually shot a rare cross between the two species, who normally live in very different climates.”

The writer is wrong. These are not two species and the fact that they can breed proves that they are not. At some point in the past they had a common ancestor. Perhaps some of the “bears” went north and some went south were they each under went some adaptations based on the DNA already present in the original “bear” ancestor.

From Wikipedia: Ernst Mayr’s definition, known as the Biological Species Concept (BSC) of a species as “groups of actually or potentially interbreeding natural populations, which are reproductively isolated from other such groups”.

My guess would be that a period of cooling caused the bear group stranded in colder climates to adapt. Maybe the grizzlies are closer to the original bear. Sorta like my cousins 6 generations in the hills are a different species than those of us moved to the flatlands! (no jokes please)

But who knows? To use two bears mating as proof that the climate is getting warmer is ridiculous. Warmer than when? Sorta like saying that white people interbreeding with red people in North America is proof of global warming. After all it wouldn’t have happened if the glaciers had not receded.

Also sad that the Canadians are not taking proper care of their 'first nations'!

They are so impoverished and hungry, they shoot first, ID the target later!

When a young Inuit hunter took aim with his rifle he thought he had spotted a polar bear or an Arctic fox

Polar bears and grizzlies inhabit the northernmost shores of Alaska and Canada. Together. Both species are regularly seen in the North Slope oil patches in Alaska. They mated? No surprise. As an old Eskimo lady from Barrow once told me as I was admiring her blue-eyed, blond-haired granddaughters: “We’ve got a couple of Norwegian whale hunters in the wood pile.”

If the polar bear knows how to drive a Hybrid, he can leave the AC on.

This is really, really serious! I saw an American/mexican hybrid accosting a Trump supporter at a rally in New Mexico this morning!

Once we were all Americans, now we are mixed mongrels from other countries only here for the “milk and honey” spewed forth by the democrats, liberals, progressives and simply very ignorant, timid and “brain dead.”

Right, this is a ridiculous narrative. While it is “rare” it does in fact exist and has probably from the very beginning. This article acts like it is unheard of and the fact one was shot indicates there is global warming? The offspring are also fertile so they are pretty much the same animal with a different color coat.
