Funniest thing I've ever seen...

Was working with a Texican with a stronger drawl than mine.

A Spanish guy, I say Spanish because he was as white as me so he wasn't a Mexican, walks up and starts speaking in Spanish to him and doesn't even look at me.
He looks at me and says, "Do you know what he said? You speak more Spanish than I do because I don't speak it at all."

Now, you might think that his response to me was the funny thing. Well, it wasn't!

This Spanish guy, who had to have understood what was sad, turned bright red, anger flashed in his eyes and he stormed off muttering under his breath. We never did find out what he was looking for and he never came back. Perhaps we were laughing too hard.

The guy probably just thought you were not being polite-the odds are that he understood English perfectly well, too if it was S/SW Texas...

I learned Norteno Spanish at home as a child as my 2nd language, so I’m bilingual-in W and SW Texas most people do-my family is of Latino ancestry, but people of other ethnicities speak it, too-especially ranchers, truckers, other small business people, etc for business purposes.

The ranchers on the other side of the border that you do business with also speak English. Most illegals are easy to recognize-they do not speak the Norteno dialect we speak in this part of Texas and northern Mexico, but the Spanish spoken in the interior...

MrT5 was of Canadian French ancestry-most of his relatives lived in Quebec-the Quebecois dialect that they-and he-spoke as a second language was nothing like you’d hear in France...
