But what happened to Louisiana? Virginia? They went Democrat after having conservative Republicans for governors! Hopefully, Trump will be able to keep that from happening in other Republican-run states!
Virginia has one SCREW-UP Republican Party - I still remember when they BLATANTLY ran a Third Party candidate for Senator, in order to throw the election to the Democrats (Oliver North race, 1994). That doesn’t mean the state is Democrat, it means that the Republican Party there is sick.
Louisiana, for whatever reason, Republicans allowed a guy with way too much baggage to get the nomination for Governor, and paid the price for that...and Jindal wound up very unpopular at the end also. Also, the Dem there knew enough not to tie himself to the national party, until after winning.
So they’ll win a few, isolated, cases.
I will say, going back to Trump, if his people really do start clearing out the DC infrastructure, the Dems may find themselves with a lot less support up north - this Virginia shift is due almost totally to the growth of DC, as opposed to an increase in Hispanics and blacks, and it is reversible, with a guy who will put serious dudes at the top of the DC agencies.
