This author has no idea of the principle at issue. We have retained the draft apparatus because this is what the government does, control the population in as many ways as possible. In the unlikely event that a draft were required, it could be reinstated in days. But, requiring women to register would mean the end of the draft and every politician knows it.
On the other hand, if we had a true universal draft, including women, the political nonsense of allowing a handful of women realizing their fantasies at the expense of the nation’s defense capability would disappear over night. This issue is purely political, nothing at all about defense policy. By defeating this provision, the gutless Republicans have surrendered to the Democrats and the social engineers.
How stupid does this writer have to be to base his argument on the assumption that to have a draft, every single 18 year old who is physically able must be inducted?

Along with the military training, an intensive course in the REAL history and culture of the United States, as it played out in the years prior to 1960, intended to correct the miseducation that has been applied to public schools the past fifty years.
America is and always was a good country, albeit with poorly inspired leaders at times, that has demonstrated the best form of self-correcting experience in governance the world has ever known. Yes, there have been excesses, but that is the purpose of experience, to learn and apply that learning.
Young men who truly love their land of nativity should not have to be drafted, and they should be signing up in such numbers that no draft should ever be necessary. The Swiss have it right - every able-bodied Swiss male citizen is a member of the Swiss Army, as a reserve, and learns this self-reliance from a very early age.
Neither Hitler nor Mussolini dared any attempt to send troops into Switzerland in the Second World War, because the Swiss would have scorched earth, dynamiting every mountain pass and tunnel through the mountains and taken up defensive positions behind every tree and mountain ridge in all of Switzerland.
