As a result, government charts plotting coal's life expectancy look like the flat vital signs of a very sick patient.

I have to laugh whenever liberals say something is a moral issue. #1, because on other matters, they tell us we can’t legislate morality, and #2, liberals tend to not be moral people; they tend not to have a religious or moral compass in the first place.
But such people are going to lecture to us about the morality of using coal. Really??????
Just read an article that says Venezuela’s food shortages are intentional to solidify Maduro’s control.
How is this different? Coal’s decline is contrived by the government to control the population.
And our nation is on a suicide path. Coal is cleaner than ever and starting in the 70’s we have had energy shortages and up/down costs. With new oil finds, fracking and coal, we should see energy stability for several centuries.

‘Market forces’ are not ‘pathogens’. Remove the real pathogens (over regulation and phony ‘moral arguments’) and coal is probably the cheapest way to generate electricity.
If climate change is REALLY a serious problem, we should restrict ALL unnecessary production of whatever gasses these assclowns consider to be bad.
Check back with us when all private jets are banned, mega mansions are forced to use the same amount of power as a bungalow, we all drive the same crapmobile (probably from GM), and we all eat rabbit food.

I spent most of my career in power plant services, design, and R&D, most of it focused on coal. There’s nothing like being in the crosshairs.
Even if some new technology with zero emissions came on the scene and it could produce power at about the same cost as coal, it would still make us all poorer.
The cost of replacing existing coal plants is money unavailable for other needs. We’re broke and getting more so thanks to the do gooders.

The largest consumer of energy in the world is the U.S. federal government, which also has the least to show for it. Fedzilla gets bigger every year via the votes of the global warming crowd. If they really gave a damn about needless pollution they'd vote to spin down the size of government.

The good news is, that when civilization falls, it’s a low-tech and easy to acquire and use energy source, and there will still be lots of it. I’ve actually seen veins of it on road cuts.
