Looks like China sees an opportunity to form a satellite nation if they can manipulate the opposition party into power.

China tends to establish relations with the people in power, not revolutionaries. The primary reason for that is if they did, it would open up the opportunity to support opposition groups within China. They can establish relations with the revolutionaries, but only after they get into power.
