All just fun and games, of course... /s

It's astonishing to me that the woman even has the privilege of holding office in Reunified Germany.

It's not like the DDR won the war.

An entire generation of Communist dupes regurgitating mindless Marxist twaddle has to die off before Germany has a prayer of being safe.

Is there any evidence she turned on the Soviets? That she had doubts about the entire system? That she agreed with the principles of the GDR?

It's mind boggling to me that she could even stand for office. She has the status of un-convicted Gestapo officer, just a different war. Why weren't there trials for her and her ilk, like Nuremberg?

Merkel started to rise up in the (western) CDU ranks after the fall of the wall in the ‘90s as a protégé of then-chancellor Helmut Kohl - the ‘chancellor of the reunification’ (’Helmut the Imbicile’ as he will be known in future sagas) - as a foothold for his party in the East (my best guess). Consider that as a sort of benediction, at least by the political establishment.

Arguably, she did well and appealed to the more conservative-leaning voters in the beginning.

And now, this.

Well, what are the options for an explanation? She suddenly went mad? A long-planned gambit? Probably needs some intensive water-boarding sessions to get to the bottom of the matter...
