The Olympics are a joke. Have been for a long time and probably for most of their existence. If American networks, NBC in particular just refused to televise them, the Olympics would die a quick death. Another corrupt international entity propped up by American advertising dollars and viewership.

It’s bull-pucky, of course, but very telling.
For all the faults, the Olympics are loved world-wide. Just because America may ignore, not broadcast or boycott the Olympics would not spell death. Not at all. You may as well say that the Soccer World Cup would die if the USA wasn’t interested. It’s a myopic and stupid view of the world.
