From the article:

"Most of my colleagues are dishonest career politicians who revel in the power and special-interest money that's lavished upon them,' the author writes."

"My main job is to keep my job, to get reelected. It takes precedence over everything."

"Fundraising is so time consuming I seldom read any bills I vote on. Like many of my colleagues, I don't know how the legislation will be implemented, or what it'll cost."

It's probably Franken. His idea of a joke.

Regardless, Primary em' all, let God sortem' Out!

Good to know. I rarely order from Amazon, but most of my conservative friends do.

Anymore I feel like I'm part of The Feds feudalistic cattle drive. We get to get up every morning and go to work to support our royal politician's life style.

Do you live in his district now? Can you update us?

I think he turns 72 this year.

A bit of trivia: He used to date Katherine Harris, the former Republican Secretary of State of Florida during the 2000 election. (Nothing to do with his call on Gore to drop out since the dating didn't begin until some years later.)

I do live in his district. Seriously low energy campaign during the last election. I keep thinking he will retire.

I also think the Democrat party has left him behind as he is pro life and perhaps not as crazy as some. My father in law, however, thinks Peterson only votes with the republicans when the dems don’t need his vote-a ploy to present himself as moderate and only interested in what’s best for his constituents. He always votes with fellow dems if they need it.

Most of the people I knew from up there wanted to head for Arizona or Florida or anywhere warmer when they hit their 70s. There were few hardy souls who would stick around until they planted them in the cold, cold ground (my former boss, for one) if they could afford to move somewhere warmer.

Despite all the lip service people give to the cold, crisp, clean and healthy climate, it really does get harder to take the cold once you hit a certain age, doesn't it?

I don’t know about a 6 year term for president.
Think about all the evil Obama accomplished in just a few years.
I think 4 years is fine.

You do have a good point.

If you look back over the last 60-70 years many (but not all) two term presidencies start to lose their vigor and even collapse in the 5th or 6th year - if they haven't fallen apart earlier.

LBJ, Nixon, Clinton and Bush 43 come to mind.

IMHO, Reagan is the notable exception on the positive side.

And of course Obama is the stand out exception on the negative side.
He has been a disaster since the first day but I do believe he became even more worthless after he won a second term.

And I really have grave concerns about the coming 8 months until he is gone.

.

Known this for a long time.
A congresscritter, Senator or Rep, spends most of their time fundraising, while his staff does the work.

I heard Thomas Massie of Ky on WKRC make the statement about the constant fundraising. I doubt he said screw the next generation, though.

I'm betting this is a compilation of really stupid things all congresscritters have said. You caught one in the act.

Raul grijalva, for example, advocated boycotting Arizona, his own state over illegal immigrant legislation. Still, he got reelected. The voters are gullible and looking for the easiest handouts.

Al Franken was probably laughing when he said it.

He still thinks he is funny. But, he was never funny until he became a Congressman.

Normal people (like me!) do find each winter a bit more painful. My husband loves it-he loves to shovel just to spend time outside. He also hates being hot. Winter ends his discomfort and brings wrestling season, a win - win for him

He comes from hardy stock; his parents still have only wood heat, no back up furnace. When his grandmother was 80 she shot a bear out her kitchen window.

If it weren’t for him I’d probably be further south by now!

I sympathize a little with your husband. It is just that I, having been born in Wyoming and spending most of my growing up years (until age 33) in North Dakota and NW Minnesota, get my fill of snow shoveling during a SW Pennsylvania winter which, in the worst case scenario, runs from late November to early March. A more typical case is early January to mid February.

This last winter is was about two weeks in the first half of February. Still, it does happen ever winter without failure. You'd marvel at the poor level of winter driving skills in this area.
