Brown Universitys Hillel has pulled its sponsorship of a Wednesday event commemorating the 1948 Palestinian Arab exodus from Israel more commonly referred to as the Nakba following heavy backlash, The Algemeiner has learned.
Hillel, along with other pro-Israel and Jewish student organizations, initially agreed to sponsor the campus event set to feature a film screening and discussion of the Nakba, an Arabic word which literally translates as disaster or catastrophe. Nakba Day is generally observed on May 15, the day after Israels Independence Day on the Gregorian calendar, and often sees heavy rioting and violent protest by Palestinians across Israel and the West Bank.
The initially planned event, titled Jews Facing the Nakba, was cancelled by its student organizers following Hillels withdrawal of support. However, a new private screening, sans Hillels sponsorship, will take place Wednesday evening. Several other pro-Israel and Jewish groups, such as Brown Students for Israel (BSI), remain sponsors of the screening.
According to part of a statement published by pro-Israel blogger IsraellyCool that was posted on the private Facebook group for the event:

Bizarre.
Glad Hillel backed off, even though they only backed off half way.
Okay. That about settles that. Instead of the phony 'Nakba Day', invite Efraim Karsh so he can recount what really happened as he recounts in 'Palestine Betrayed' and then let them be schooled further on the 'New Historians' as the author did in 'Fabricating Israeli History'. Nothing like getting the history straight before getting all politically correct.
Pulling the sponsorship was the right thing to do of course but this historical revisionism will be a festering propaganda wound waiting for a future opportunity to undermine the truth
Hillel at a school like Brown are suffering from Stockholm syndrome. Given the total leftist propaganda one is swimming in at a place like that, there’s no other way to survive there.
