I was in the middle of purchasing a house when thieves got inside and stole all the copper and were in the middle of stealing all the hardware, like faucets, toilet handles, mirrored closets, etc. Of course, we dropped out of the deal but the point is that this is an epidemic in the US as well. Our local politicians should make it harder to sell scrap metal.

When we had an ice storm one winter and people were without power for a week or more wood and generators were common targets.
In some rural areas, regulations are being passed to make it illegal for property owners to camp on their properties (for owner-building, security for neighbors’ properties, etc.). Watch what happens to the homes of established NIMBYs, after those who were camping are driven away.
This doesn’t surprise me at all. We recently moved into a house, and iIbought a bunch of Cedar for the garden. A bunch of 10ft planks (10’x20’ garden) and a 4x4 for corner posts was just over $200.... Been a couple years since iIwas at home with my parents, and iIdon’t remember any wood ever costing nearly as much...
