Trump is sui generis, not analogous to what used to be the Republican party.
He's not confined by such bullshit, though he will dish it out if required.
I don't know whether I can trust Trump or not, all I know is he hasn't yet joined all the other politicians stabbing me and my family me in the back.

They DESPERATELY wanted to get his DUI out there, but to his credit he handled it fine. They kept wanting one of two answers:
1) “Yes, I was young...”
2) “No, what the hell are you talking about?”
For both answers, they were ready to pounce with court records and God knows what else. For the second answer, they can say: “Oh yea, well what about this...” and then pounce with details - thereby turning something decades old into a real-time lie.
But Bush simply kept saying (to the effect): “There were some things that I did in my younger years that I regret.” They were pissed, but Bush nailed it perfectly.
