Because at home men tend to be more respectful of the women and girls in their lives. Not so much in public restrooms. So men need a large target — a urinal.
I’ve wondered if men would keep the men’s room better (I’ve cleaned them while doing different jobs) if restrooms were in general more home-like, meaning they were more decorative with more feminine touches, reminding men of women.
