This story is an example why the republican party consistently loses against the progressive left. In response to the ridiculous, albeit recent, NC bathroom laws (which the MSM are having fun bashing conservatives on the head with) the Ted Cruz constituency wants to write bathroom laws into the 2016 republican party platform.
Yes, yes, unfortunately that’s the modern right-wing cultural GOPe. Look over there, shiny thing, shiny thing… quick, go chase it….. quick make a law to control it…. bathrooms, gays, transgenders… oh noes, the humanity !
WASHINGTON DC – After he lost the Republican nomination, Sen. Ted Cruz’s backers will now reportedly pivot towards trying to gain control of the GOP’s platform during the national convention.
According to The New York Times, top Cruz aide Ken Cuccinelli wrote in an email to supporters urging them to come to Cleveland in July to “protect against liberal changes to our platform.” Cuccinelli confirmed the effort to the Times, telling them that Cruz’s backers seek to protect “movement conservatism,” including a firming of the party’s core positions on abortion and the addition of language regarding transgender bathroom use.
“We want to have girls go in girls’ bathrooms,” he said, alluding to how presumptive nominee Donald Trump has taken a more liberal position than Cruz on which bathrooms transgender individuals can use. (read more)
Bathroom monitors? Really? That’s what the Ted Cruz wing of the republican party is worried about… being the bathroom police?
Personally, I’ve come to the conclusion the GOPe actually meets behind mahogany doors and picks out things -intentionally- to make issues out of and give the republican party the public appearance of insane nuttery. I’ve come to believe they do this on purpose as party of the entire construct of the UniParty…. there can be no other reasonable explanation.

You think I’m a rube who’s being played? Decade after decade I’ve been told these type of social/value issues don’t matter. The name of the game is always to surrender. And what did it all add up to? My country is now gone. It’s become a sick puke-fest of a nation, wallowing in its depravity, and I can no longer feel any allegiance nor patriotism towards it.
Elections are meaningless when there’s no country left to fight for. And that’s where I now find myself, all because of decades of this kind of surrender, which you advocate.
What do you care if men expose themselves to girls in the shower room? Your callous attitude is despicable, and will indeed lead to girls and women doing their business in the bushes because they can no longer safely use the women's room.

But xzins is right. There were plenty of laws on the books that prohibited men from using the little girls rooms. The liberal enclave Charlotte NC passed a law that nullified all the state laws, so the State simply passed a law that prohibited the cities and counties from acting illegally and overturning state law by their own decrees.
What NC did was necessary in order to preserve the laws that have been on the books for hundreds of years.
People keep saying that, but public bathrooms didn't exist before the 30s. Everyone used to use chamber pots or outhouses that we generally not segregated by sex. Frankly I'd much prefer a return to single stall bathrooms instead of public ones.

Understand me: I signed the boycott of Target, though I used to shop there. I intend to do more as a private citizen. That is what is needed: the private sector hurting these businesses via the free market.
I care deeply for the safety of little girls, but I also care for the nation as a whole. If we do not focus on the national level on saving the Republic from the globalists, then any short-term victory on something as specific as the bathroom issue will be short lived, and will be lost along with the entire nation.
Cities are not separate sovereigns from the state. They are a creation of the state and subservient to it. Charlotte attempted to pass a law that nullfied state law. That was an illegal law. The Legislature had to put them back into line.
