TALLADEGA, AL (WCMH) An 11-year-old boy shot a burglar during a break-in attempt.
Chris Gaither was home along Wednesday when he says he heard a noise. It was apparent that someone was trying to break in.
Fearing for his life, he tells WVTM he grabbed a 9mm handgun.
When he was coming down the stairs, thats when he told me he was going to kill me, f-you and all that, Gaither said.
The intruder started walking toward the front door, carrying a hamper full of property.
Thats when Gaither opened fire.
I shot through the hamper he was carrying, Gaither said. It was a full metal jacket bullet. It went straight through the back of his leg. He started crying like a little baby.
Police are investigating and the name of the suspect has not been released. He was taken to an area hospital to be treated for his injuries.
He was Kidding...
So they release the name of the 11-year old victim but not the criminal who would’ve killed the kid ?
Man. Don’t mess with that 11-year-old.
I love happy endings.
Idiot world we live in. Sounds like my local news. All liberal ding-dongs.
The burglar was likely underage.
The hero is not charged with a crime so no reason not to give his name.
Well done young alpha-male :-)
"Keep the change you filthy animal."
Evidently the perp never watched any of the Home Alone movies?
Anyway first happy ending story of the day!
And so early in the morning!
So many kids lately standing tall and taking it to the bad guys with legal firearms.
This could shape up to be a Great Day!
“Evidently the perp never watched any of the Home Alone movies?”
It’s entirely possible that the perp has seen several movies in which there are characters that make people like him look “cool”.
The burglar was walking towards the front door. This is not going to bode well for Gaither.
Why didn’t the cops prevent this from happening? /s
“The burglar was walking towards the front door. This is not going to bode well for Gaither.”...
Why? Gathier, having shot the intruder through the hamper he was carrying in front of him, would indicate that Gaither was more than likely between the front door and the perp. (A possibility?)
One of Obama’s sons.
Great feel good story that’s been posted numerous times here since April.
Urinalistic moron. Don't they proof read or edit? "home along???"
SAYS is a present tense word. SAID is past tense. Wednesday was in the past. This article describes an interview in the past.
The burglar was walking towards the front door. This is not going to bode well for Gaither.
Seriously doubt it...
Not sure of Alabama castle doctrine, but someone tells you they are going to kill you, even to scare you, all bets are off...
Good shooting Kiddo
I shot through the hamper he was carrying, Gaither said. It was a full metal jacket bullet. It went straight through the back of his leg. He started crying like a little baby.
He was on his way to the door [front door presumably] carrying a hamper, presumably filled with items stolen from the home, surely not just the dirty laundry and surely not an empty hamper.
Alabama has a very strong Castle Doctrine legal statute, and moreover it is respected by the police and judiciary and most every citizen.
When the perp told the kid he was going to kill him, the kid had every right to shoot, even in the perp’s back. A break in, with witnessed theft of goods, combined with a threat of death, put the child’s life in extreme jeopardy. After all, the only one who could even identify the criminal at this point is this same child. Motive right there.
Every Alabama jury, if it even got that far, and it won’t, would see it that way.
With aromatic garner and spiel dreck how needs to proof reed.
Normally I would say the kid needs more range time but not this time for the obvious reasons.
