While I agree with the author I still think he and many others are locked into a “us and them” analysis. The voters supporting Trump are not JUST “blue-collar” and “undereducated” or “Angry” voters.

No, today, Trump has wide appeal to educated, white collar and concerned, (not angry) voters all across the spectrum. Those of us who support Trump are:

1) Deeply worried that the USA has committed many, devastating self-inflicted wounds both at home and abroad.

2) Intentionally withdrawn from the world stage as a superpower, "superpower" does not mean warmonger.

3) Intentional loss of power, prestige, influence and RESPECT around the world.

4) Tired of Obama’s America 33rd instead of Trump's America 1st.

5) Want to heal the social cohesion of the society which Obama has undone so skilfully.

6) Limit the level of where the US is taking advantage of in terms of trade, business and agreements.

7) Do not want to see a failed Hilliary Clinton continue Obama’s horrendous polices both domestic and foreign.

8) Desire a President who is a straight shooter, a man who tells it like it is and a man who will not be afraid to tell us the unpleasant truths.

We are so deep in the feces that we need a T. Roosevelt of sorts. 9) Lastly, we want a President who loves and respects his country not the current nim-nod, avowed Liberal, European-style, chic & cool, Messiah star whose hubris has no bounds.

So, it is not an ANGRY, BLUE COLLAR voter who is looking to Trump but rather a UUUGE sector of the public who are for national salvation and pride.

No, this is not Hitler in 1932 and anybody who paints Trump as such is just not listening to what the man is actually saying about our people and our nation.

Trump: CHANGE that is genuine!

Very comprehensive and accurate post, Netz.
Count me as a highly-educated professional who likes Donald Trump.
In my circles it is considered "fashionable" to be against Donald Trump, even though the person may agree with all of Donald Trump's viewpoints.
The social media meme of Trump supporters being racist/provincial/dumb is trite and tiresome.

That is why when discussions turn to politics at family events, parties with friends, etc. my technique is to explain viewpoints calmly and briefly...then disengage.

My feeling is once this respectful, mannerly, and decent "Silent Majority" enters the privacy of the voting booth...Donald Trump will win in a landslide. His straightforward policies make complete sense to honorable Americans.

“The voters supporting Trump are not JUST “blue-collar” and “undereducated” or “Angry” voters.”

I agree entirely. First, years of education doesn't equal greater intelligence, but having said that, I'm sure there are many of us just on this board who have more years of education than the average politician.

Actually, one big problem is that too many of those in politics are clueless. The fact that Trump could Waltz in from a career in real estate development and take on a crowd of career politicians and media people, without using notes or media consultants etc., and kick their collective backsides, is testimony to the fact that government does not attract or consist of the ‘cream of the crop’. This is one reason they hate him. In their minds they are ‘special’. He points out that they are ‘emperors without clothes’.
