Almost no one except dedicated party activists and hired party officials know the delegate selection rules; they are arcane, obscure, different in each state, and almost impenetrable unless one can make such study a full time avocation. Thus “regular citizens” and “regular voters” are in the dark about the back room wheeling and dealing which although apparently by the rules, is certainly against the principles underlying our representative republic. And warned against in George Washington’s Farewell Address of 1796.
I certainly hope Trump has people on this.
Anohter good thing Trump has done has revealed the very seamy underside of caucuses and delegate selection, a nasty system that needs to be roto-rootered.
I'm not a party activist. I've served as a delegate many times. It wasn't complicated to figure out.
I don't understand why people think it's so complicated, but as you know, I have an affinity for the law. So I always read the rules.
