Okay, but it seems to me the best way to achieve that objective was to stay in the race, even if they couldn’t afford to actively campaign. They would still have volunteers, Cruz and Kasich supporters would go to the poles and vote thinking they were still in the race.
Having officially dropped out, it seems like the odds are much higher that Trump walks away with the primary votes, and has even more delegates bound to him than he would have had they stayed in.
I just don’t see how announcing that the campaign is suspended helps if the objective is still to deny Trump 1237. Then again, I never thought of Cruz as a master strategist.
Cruz only 'suspended' his public campaign. His super pacs are still very active. Cruz and his so called pundit class still hope they can deny Trump that 1237 and have themselves a 'contested' convention like 1976.
