The United States Military Academy at West Point said Wednesday that an investigation is underway regarding a photograph that shows 16 black cadets in uniform posing with their fists in the air.
We can confirm that the cadets in this photo are members of the U.S. Military Academys Class of 2016, West Points director of public affairs, Lt. Col. Christopher Kasker, told Army Times on Wednesday. Academy officials are conducting an inquiry into the matter.
John Burk, an Army veteran who served in the Iraq War before launching a popular fitness website, accused the 16 female cadets photographed in the picture of aligning themselves with the Black Lives Matter movement by posing with their fists raised a gesture that indeed has been adopted by the protest movement, as well as other, unrelated groups for centuries.
If the gesture was meant to show support for the Black Lives Matter movement, he wrote, then the women may have violated a Department of Defense directive that prohibits enlisted members from engaging in partisan political activity while in uniform.

West Point participates in college athletics...and is subject to Title 9 requirements to spend just as much money on women’s sports as they do men’s.
As with most colleges, this means a whole bunch of women’s only sports to offset the spending on the all men football team.
Then add to that the fact that only a small percent of cadets are women.
It all adds up to: around 75% of the women are there to be on athletic teams and are not necessarily there because they are top notch scholars.
I might add that the location of the photo is not some remote corner of the post. Rather, its square in the middle of everything, and likely there were lots of other cadets around to see the black power sign.
QFT - exactly, tea and crumpets in the Rose Garden with FLOTUS.
Lets just hope they had some safe spots on campus to go to after they saw this you know if their feelings got hurt
Throw’em out. And you ARE right. The Military has NOT changed since the 67-70’s.
A fist in the air is not a gesture that is unique to or exclusive to the BLM movement. That will be their defense and it is a defense that will win.
At the expense of the US taxpayer....
If the gesture was meant to show support for the Black Lives Matter movement, he wrote, then the women may have violated a Department of Defense directive that prohibits enlisted members from engaging in "partisan political activity" while in uniform. They should be given the boot.
That folks, is the US Army today. Face it. Love the soldiers of the past, but today it is no longer an instrument of freedom.
Care to guess how many of them believe in the ideals of the founders? How many of them know the Constitution? How many of them would refuse to fire on tea style protesters?
Look closely.
You cannot be serious when you say the military hasn’t changed since the late 60s. Loyalty it touching, but loyalty means you point out the crap going on today.
You don’t just hug them and proclaim they are as good as ever.
I’m afraid these women are confident they’ll get the AA exemption.
I would not be surprised if they don’t know the regulations. They probably can’t read cursive.
That looks like a group of black women who just joined the Confederacy.
They should be shot.
It was a mandated activity to teach male ROTC cadets about rape, supposedly.
You have mail. I make a point that that PC is the problem since the 60’s and it has never changed since my time. When it was NOT called PC.
That folks, is the US Army today. Face it. Love the soldiers of the past, but today it is no longer an instrument of freedom.
I'm retiring from the Army in a few weeks.
You're right. The current Army is vastly different from just 10 or 20 years ago.
There are extremist Liberals in the Army now, and a LOT of them. I've seen it. I work with these people. Officers and NCOs.
You just didn't see that 20 years ago.
The Army is a reflection of society. Liberalism is on the march and has been for many years.
The biggest reason for this is that they've encountered NO pushback. NO opposition.
This is why Trump is succeeding.
Anyway - its not new. Theyve just been emboldened enough to go above ground.
Oh, it was fairly well beat into our heads not to engage in anything political while in uniform or representing the military. They had to have known better, but assumed their cause trumped the rules.
Interesting - thanks for sharing.
Hey! Don’t worry about West Point. It will soon have a wo-man as the commandant!
Colonel Lee would be twirling in his grave.
America doesn’t have a military; rather it has a laboratory.
Bust them, send them home, and bill them for their tuition.
