Pregnant Women Dumped By Covered California Into Medi-Cal, Without Notice Or Consent
Kaiser Health News ^ | May 3, 2016 | By Emily Bazar

Lynn Kersey has some advice for pregnant women who bought health insurance policies from Covered California and want to keep them: Don't report your pregnancy to the agency.

Why? Two of Kersey's clients with Covered California health plans recently were thrown into Medi-Cal - the state's health program for low-income residents - without their consent or prior notice after they reported their pregnancies to the state's health insurance exchange.

The two women are among about 1,900 across the state who were automatically transferred from the exchange to Medi-Cal since October, even though they were supposed to have the option to stay with Covered California.

A similar problem is affecting some pregnant women who purchased their plans through HealthCare.gov.

It's unclear how many women in the federal exchange have been affected by the glitch, she said, but it also stems from computer problems.

"The computer system was basically immediately transitioning them to Medicaid" when they reported their pregnancies to HealthCare.gov, Solomon said. "They should have the choice and they're not getting it."

Plan cancellations without notice or consent have been a persistent problem for some Covered California enrollees since 2014.

It's not a glitch, it's a feature.

I’m guessing they didn’t get a license from the government to reproduce. Or maybe they are the wrong color. Probably both.

He never said “if you like your insurance plan, you can keep it.”

I’d file a complaint with the State Attorney General for bait and switch and consider filing a lawsuit for fraud.

The time to stop obamacare was a long time ago. Congress didn’t do it. Now republicans will run on stopping it but never stop it. Ted Cruz was the only one to even make a gesture
The insurance companies have fit their budgets into it and it’s now too late

The people who run some of the nursing homes in ny are the same people who run the diamond district in Manhattan. They are in it for the money. There is money to be made supplying Americans with drugs

My guess is these ‘mishaps’ are intentional and designed to frustrate the people into demanding single payer system.

From the HHS website

Twenty-Two Covered Preventive Services for Women, Including Pregnant Women

Maternity care and childbirth — services provided before and after a child is born — are essential health benefits. This means all qualified health plans inside and outside the Marketplace must cover them. Women get this coverage even if they were pregnant before their coverage starts. Under the health care law pre-existing conditions are covered, including pregnancy

Only people on welfare can reproduce at will.

So, do you agree with the premise that dumping her into MediCal is a fraud but at minimum a bait-and-switch? I guess one would run afoul of the authorities if one held the view that paid healthcare is or could in any way be better than HC for the indigent. Especially if she’s white. That would be a brutal assertion of privilege, no doubt.

Just asking.

What happened to the right to privacy ladies?

Reading the basic information she (and all women) should be covered by her health coverage. But knowing the politicians the devil is in the details (legal small print). So maybe what happened is perfectly legal but a misrepresent of what the basic information on the HHS web site leads one to believe.

Just another example of what happens when we get to read the law after Congress past it............
